WHO WE ARE

The Home Remedy, previously named ‘Furniture Bank’ started in 2015. The Home Remedy’s vision is to become a leading community organisation dedicated to transforming houses into welcoming, comfortable, and functional homes for everyone. We aim to provide comprehensive solutions that start with furniture but go well beyond that: encompassing home repairs, decor, and maintenance to ensure every house feels truly homely. Our commitment is to support families in need, enhancing their living spaces in every way possible and fostering a sense of security, warmth, and belonging in the communities we serve.

We aim to create positive change in our community in three ways:

A carbon neutral community;

Where the public have an easy and convenient way of offering furniture they no longer need to be recycled and reused. Where the public have a space where they can purchase upcycled furniture. Big individual changes are needed to produce positive environmental changes in our world.

Ensuring everyone has access to furniture they need;

No one should live in a home without the furniture they need to live a comfortable and stable life. No child should have to sleep on the floor, and no parent should have to sleep on a sofa. We provide good quality used furniture at heavily subsidised prices. Buttle UK have estimated that up to 400,000 children are sleeping without a bed. We want to stop this happening.

Creating opportunities for paid work regardless of any barriers;

We create paid placements and flexible employment for those in society who are sometimes seen as ‘unemployable’. Our placements are for those struggling to enter mainstream work, or need to ease themselves into working schedules. For example: those coming from the youth probation service. Creating a community for our staff where everyone is welcome without prejudice.
